Difference between polyurethane timing belts and rubber timing belts
2025-07-16
Many people don't know which material of timing belt to choose. Currently, the main timing belts on the market are mainly divided into polyurethane timing belts and rubber timing belts. Although both are timing belts, there are significant differences in product quality and material composition, and it can even be said that they are not the same thing.
Polyurethane timing belts are a common material, mostly composed of thermoplastic polyurethane and high-strength steel wire. Thermoplastic polyurethane material has high wear resistance, and various types of internal cords ensure good movement during transmission. Open PU timing belts have reliable transmission and stable dimensions. In the production process of enterprises, adding a layer of nylon to the tooth surface or tooth back can ensure special operations in special applications. Of course, it can also be added to the back of the belt. A thick layer of polyurethane can effectively prevent high corrosion or high load phenomena.
Generally made of nylon wire (or steel wire, copper wire) as the tensile member and cast with polyester, it has the characteristics of oil resistance, impact resistance, and beautiful appearance. In terms of chemical properties, it is resistant to aging, hydrolysis, ultraviolet UVA, and ozone. The operating temperature can reach -30℃~+80℃, and can withstand +110℃ for a short time. It is also resistant to most acid and alkali corrosion, highly oil-resistant, and ester-resistant.
