Installation precautions for synchronous belt drive
2025-07-16
When installing the belt onto the pulley, the number of belt teeth and the pulley groove should be checked for correct matching before tensioning the drive.
Correction of belt drive tension and alignment is crucial for optimizing belt life and reducing noise levels. In fact, improper tension in a belt drive affects the belt's fit in the pulley groove, whereas correct tension reduces pulley interference and lowers noise in the drive.
Misalignment of pulleys will lead to unequal tension, edge wear, and reduced belt life. Furthermore, a misaligned drive will be noisier than a correctly aligned drive due to interference between the timing teeth and the wheel grooves. Check pulley alignment using a straight edge or laser alignment tool.
Idler pulleys are typically devices that apply tension to the drive when the center toe is rounded. However, it can also increase the number of teeth in mesh. Compared to a rear idler, a toothed idler is recommended for internal measurements on the slack side of the timing belt. Internal flat idlers are not recommended as the belt will generate noise and abnormal wear.
* Idler pulley is located within the slack side range of the timing belt drive
* The diameter of the toothed idler pulley for the toothed surface should be greater than or equal to the diameter of the smaller pulley in the drive.
* The idler pulley should have straight teeth. No arc surface, contact us for low curvature:
* The width of the sui wheel should be greater than or equal to the width of pulley B
Loading and Storage of Timing Belts [Storage, Transportation and Maintenance of Timing Belts]
Proper storage is important to avoid damage to the timing belt, which may lead to premature failure. Timing belts must not be stored on the floor unless it is in a protective container. To avoid damage, which in severe cases may cause personal injury or equipment damage, timing belts should be stored in a direct, cool, dry environment free from surrounding chemicals. Avoid placing timing belts in windows (avoid sunlight and moisture), away from motors or ozone-generating equipment, and no direct airflow near heating/cooling systems.
During loading, unloading, or storage, the timing belt must not be bent to avoid damaging the belt core. The timing belt must not be hung on small pins to avoid bending into a small diameter. Handle the belt carefully during movement and installation. During installation, do not press the timing belt against the pulley flange.
